We drove over to Monte Vist today.  Stopped by our favorite farm to buy tomatoes.  I don’t know what kind of tomatoes they grow but they are so good, so sweet.

Then we stopped at this little antique store.  My big purchase was one cute little basket.  We drove on for a ways up toward South Fork.  There was a makeshift Farmer’s Market…one man, one truck.  He did have some beautiful peaches…I bought a little paper sack of them…..$11.00.  I thought that was high.  But they were fresh from Pallisade, Colorado.  I know they will be delicious. Would have been more fun to pick them ourselves, which is what we plan to do for apples.  Soon as they are ready we plan a trip to New Mexico orchards.  There we can pick our own apples.

That’s about the size of things for today.  We came home tired and and hungry…That peach pie is going to be so good with a big daub of ice cream.  For now,  got to get cooking.

Colorado Peach Pie

          3/4 cup sugar          3 T flour          1/4 tsp. nutmeg

          5 cups fresh Colorado Peaches

          2 T butter

Combine dry ingredience.  Mix lightly with peaches.

     Put in unbaked pie shell.  Dot with butter.

     Add top crust.  Bake at 4oo degrees for 40 or 45 minutes.

So good served warm with ice cream.

I’ve been busy making cabbage burgers today.  I tried something new and I think it turned out pretty good.  I put canned chopped chili pepper in with the cabbage & vegeburger (we’re vegetarians) others use ground beef.

Cabbage Burgers  (the easy way)

      l box hot roll mix

      l# ground beef ( in my case 1/2 can vegeburger)  

     1/2  head cabbage          l onion, chopped

      Saute onion and cabbage.  Brown meat. Mix together . Let cool.

Roll out dough.  Cut into squares, bun size.  Put cabbage mixture in center.  Fold like a bun.  Put on parchment paper on pan.  Let buns rise.  Bake.  (for a different idea add a small can of chopped green chilies to your cabbage mixture.  You could call it a Mexican Cabbage Burger.  Just a thought.  We enjoyed the variety.

Thinking about getting out our fall clothes.  Might be early.  But I’m only thinking about it.

Want to show you a picture of my two girls.  They are little chihuahuas, Emily and Sara.  Emily is the smallest and the boss. Here they are in a picture that might be called “Where’s Waldo.”

But today Hurricane Irene is pounding the east coast.  And as a nation we have to care about and pray for our fellow citizens.

Here in the valley and mountains where I live, it has been a very dry summer.  Our vegetation is green, but I’m glad I didn’t plant a garden this year.

It has been a very busy summer.  Had a lot of company.  The valley and mountains seem to attract a lot of visitors in the summer.

I put blankets down and they play games, they argue, they jump up and run around.  Oh if summer and childhood would last forever.

Now I wouldn’t call him a Master Gardener, but he’s doing okay.  Our gardens produce a pretty good crop.  Here is a picture of his tomato plants.  They really produced.  Then he planted the marigolds around our garden to keep out the insects…I don’t know what kind, but it worked..anyway no insects.

 

Build houses and settle down.
